Drain Line Repair – Plumbing services in West Georgia and East Alabama
Drain line repair usually consists of digging up the damaged part of the pipe, cutting it out and then replacing it with a new pipe. Sometimes it is necessary to dig up and replace the entire pipe line. Sometimes a trencher or a backhoe is necessary, especially if the lines are old and brittle. If your line is simply clogged, we can use a large auger (snake) to clean out the clogged pipe making a way for your pipe to drain easily again. Roots from trees or shrubs are a common problem with the clogging of drain lines. These roots grow fast can eventually put so much pressure on the drain pipe that it cracks, causing a blockage requiring drain line repair. A blockage may occur if you have what is called a “sag” in your line. A sag is when somewhere in the middle of your sewage line the earth surrounding the line has settled making a “belly” effect on the pipe. The line then has an upper slant which causes it to back up. Reasons for broken drain lines that require drain line repair include:
- Broken, cracked, offset or collapsed pipes due to shifting soil, frozen ground, settling, etc.
- Blockage may occur when there is a buildup of grease or if a foreign object is restricting or prohibiting proper flow and/or cleaning of the line.
- Corrosion occurs when the pipe has deteriorated and/or broken, causing sections of the pipe to collapse and restrict flow.
- Leaking joints occur when the seals between pipes have broken, allowing water to escape into the area surrounding the pipe.
- Bellied pipes occur when a section of the pipe has sunk due to ground or soil conditions, creating a valley that collects paper and waste.
- Root infiltration occurs when tree or shrub roots have invaded the sewer line, damaging the pipe or preventing normal cleaning.
- Off-grade pipe occurs when existing pipes are constructed of substandard or outdated material that may have deteriorated or corroded.
Problems with your drain lines need to be repaired as quickly as possible. If they are not repaired, you can experience foul smells coming from your yard or from under your house where human waste has gathered. This accumulation of foul water may also cause insects to gather and to enter your house.
